Facebook to support GIF's

Facebook confirmed that it will now support animated GIFs in the Facebook News Feed.
Not everyone will see the added functionality immediately, we understand, as the update is still rolling out.
The move represents a significant change in direction for Facebook, which has historically made a conscious decision to avoid supporting GIFs, claiming that doing so would make its News Feed “too chaotic.”

This Is Why Ed Sheeran Won’t Hook Up With Taylor Swift

Just when you thought you knew everything about Ed Sheeran, he goes and surprises you.

The singer stopped by “The Breakfast Club” this week and gave a revealing interview, which had him talking about everything from hooking up with Taylor Swift to partying with Jamie Foxx to his almost meet-up with Eminem. Oh, and he rapped a Biggie verse, which will no doubt leave you impressed.

Here are 10 interesting, hysterical and head-scratching things we learned about Ed.

No Romance Between Ed And Taylor Swift
They’ve been BFFs for awhile, but some have wondered why they haven’t taken their relationship to the next level. Well, it’s pretty simple, she’s “too tall.”
“She’s too tall,” he said. “I feel we look like cast members of ’The Hobbit,’ she’s like in the Elven Kingdom […] and I’m like with the hairy feet.”

After losing his sixth Grammy at this year’s award show, Katy provided some words of encouragement, saying that “she lost 13 so don’t worry about it.” I guess she wanted to give Ed some type of prize for the night, and she asked him to smell her armpit. He declined.

Turns out Ed is a fan; even though he’s only watched it once he “enjoyed it.” Just a warning, Ed, it gets addicting.
Elton John Sent Him Porn
Ed and Elton have become BFFs over the years, from playing together at the Grammys to Ed attending Elton’s wedding and stealing his glasses — but I don’t think he realized just how close they were until he received some very unexpected emails.
“Elton John runs the management company I am signed to and I got to U.S. customs — this was about two years ago — I had 17 new emails from him. I was like this might be quite important,” he said. “And it was a girl bent over and a catapult with a ball.”

Now most fans know that Jamie Foxx gave Ed his first big break when he invited him on his radio show, but some might not know that he actually stayed at Jamie’s mansion for several days — and the first night there he had a pretty memorable party.
“I arrived at the house and we went to his friend’s house party and Raphael Saadiq was the house band — everyone was dressed up as a cowboy,” he said. “It was a rodeo-themed birthday party.”

We have been eagerly awaiting Ed and The Game’s joint album, but it’s still going to be a while since it’s not done yet. But, Ed did give some insight on how the collaboration came together. See, The Game’s girl was a big fan of the British singer — from there, the rapper invited him into the studio to make music and have some Mc’Ds.
“We did five songs in a day and then I went back the next day [and] we did another five. He had loads of girls in the studio just eating McDonald’s,” he said. “You could find out when a song was good, because we would make a song and I’d be like, ’This is really good,’ but they were just kind of there just eating their nuggets like whatever. And then we did a [DJ] Mustard beat one and they would be like, ’Smash hit!’ That’s how you know they work.”

After he completes his world tour it appears as though Ed will be taking himself out of the spotlight for a little while to “just live” in the house he bought in his hometown and “do stuff, watch films.”
At the age of two, Ed had to undergo surgery to remove a birth mark that was turning into glaucoma, which meant he could have gone blind. While the surgery was a success, it did give him a stutter and a lazy eye.
Uncle Jim Shady
Ed’s got a pretty awesome Uncle Jim, a.k.a. Jim Shady. His uncle was the first person to introduce Ed to Eminem’s Marshall Mathers LP, which “opened the gateway” to his love of hip-hop music.

Buhari's Inaugural Speech Criticised

Editors note: As Nigerians look forward to a new dawn in the administration of their newly sworn President, Muhammadu Buhari, a lawyer has picked holes in the first speech delivered by President Buhari. He wrote on Sahara Reporters.

Article Highlights

– The President has not addressed the real issues affecting our lives in Nigeria

– It would seem that the President is still on the soap box, whereby promises and promises and intentions, are the order

– Buhari would have outlined his main policy direction. But alas, that has not happened today

Read below:

“I have read the Inaugural Speech of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Major-General Muhammadu Buhari (Rtd.), delivered immediately after his swearing in. It is gratifying that General Buhari has vowed to tackle the rot in the power sector, even though he did not give any direction on how to do that. By and large, it is my view that the President has not addressed the real issues affecting our lives in Nigeria.

It would seem that the President is still on the soap box, whereby promises and promises and intentions, are the order. He is the President of Nigeria now and my expectation was that since March 28, 2015, when he won the election, when he received the certificate of return from INEC, when he got assurances from Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, that his election would not be contested, General Buhari would have outlined his main policy direction. But alas, that has not happened today.

For instance, the President did not say anything on his foreign policy directive, on issues relating to global warming and climate change, the violence in the Middle East and the general global economic downturn. Also, the President was silent on the mode of tackling corruption, which indeed has been the main thrust of his electioneering campaigns; he was silent on the collapsing aviation sector, he kept mute on the unpaid salaries of millions of workers across the land, the huge debts that the Jonathan administration has bequeathed to him and indeed the main means of generating revenue, to run his government, apart from oil. General Buhari gave no hint on the mode of reform of the judicial system and the administration of justice generally, the expected policy statement on NNPC did not come, and even the Boko Haram insurgency, to which the President devoted most of his speech, ended up in a policy disaster, of cause after effect; in that the President will only know the cause, origin and perspectives of the criminal organization, only after he has succeeded in killing them all.

In all, the Inaugural Speech became another campaign promise, a general rendition of statements of intention, without action. It was too vague and illusory, like a speech being delivered by a novice in power. This is the President who has ruled this country as a Head of State, through a coup detat in 1983, and one that has sought to rule this nation since 2003, so he had all the time in the world, to have mapped out his cause of action and strategies. This is surely not the speech expected from our GMB.

In the coming days however, we expect more concrete reforms and ACTION”.

Buhari’s first decision as president of Nigeria is the order to relocate the military command centre from Abuja to Maiduguri immediately.

”The military command centre will not be situated in Abuja, but Maiduguri until Boko Haram is defeated”, he said.

PANDEMONIUM AT PDP SECRETARIAT OVER N360M DEBT (SEE WHAT IS GOING ON)

There was pandemonium yesterday at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), national headquarters by some irate youth that were protesting an alleged debt of over N360million being owed them by the party.

The youth said to be workers of the Twinkles World Ltd, were protesting against an unpaid debt, estimated at N360 million that the company was said to have spent handling the contract for the decoration of PDP presidential campaigns in all states of the federation in the last general elections.

During the protest, the Managing Director of the company, Mr. Tunde Agarawu, and Project Coordinator, Mr. Awonaiya Olayemi, were physically assaulted.

While the MD was in the process of the proceeding earned himself a slap by a police officer on guard at the secretariat and an unidentified employee of PDP, was spotted to be pelting the MD with sands on his head.

The police team later reinforced and came with many other police officers to battle the protesters numbering over 30.

But a police officer, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said the MD was assaulted because he did not heed the advice to channel his grievances to Legacy House, which is the office of PDP Presidential Campaign Organisation.

The firm reiterated its decision to drag President Goodluck Jonathan and the party to court over the unpaid debt.

Already, the company said its lawyer had issued a seven-day ultimatum to PDPPCO to offset the debt or face action in court.

The protesters carried placards with inscriptions including ‘PDPPCO is owing us for the service we provided them’, ‘Prof. Jerry Gana, pay us our money now!’, ‘Dr. Ahmadu Ali, DG of PDPPCO, pay our money now’, ‘Mr. President, Prof. Jerry Gana is yet to pay Twinkle World Ltd.’ and ‘Nigerians: PDP is owing Twinkle World’.

Agarawu said since Jonathan lost the presidential election to Muhammadu Buhari, he and the PDP hierarchy had failed to pay most debts incurred for the campaigns.

KEKE NAPEP DRIVER KILLS FRIEND OVER INVITATION TO JOIN CULT GROUP

KEKE NAPEP DRIVER KILLS FRIEND OVER INVITATION TO JOIN CULT GROUP By Admin On 29 May 2015 In Uncategorized

If the dead can speak, late Emmanuel Jacob, aged 18, would have been able to tell the actual cause of the fight between him and his friend that resulted in his death at Dejioworo Street, Alapere, Lagos.

Reports said on May 18, at about 9 p.m., a fight ensued between the deceased and one Benedict Ogheneorvo, over initiation into Eiye cult group.

Benedict, a tricycle driver, was said to have stabbed Emmanuel, which ultimately led to his death.

The 22-year-old suspect, who claimed he lives with his elder brother and hails from Delta State, told Vanguard: “On Monday, on my way from work, I saw my friend, Emma.

While we were exchanging greetings, he told me he wanted to drink, but I told him I did not have money to buy drinks because my tricycle was faulty, so I could not work.

I told him if he has money, I would follow him.

“We went to a nearby joint in our street. He bought a bottle of beer for me and also took same.

While we were drinking and discussing, Emmanuel brought up an issue he has been disturbing me about for some time.

It is about joining Eiye cult group. I turned him down as I have always done.

“My refusal to be initiated has always caused a rift between me and Emmanuel.

While we were still discussing and, maybe as a result of the drink he had taken, he pushed me, I also pushed him and we started fighting.

“People thought we were joking because they know we are friends.

When Emmanuel discovered his strength could not match mine, he picked an iron and attempted to stab me.

“I collected the iron from him and stabbed him with it in the neck.

He fell and I rushed to him to three different hospitals, but he was rejected. He gave up and the police came and arrested me.”

He wanted to initiate my son— VICTIM’s MOTHER

The 40-year-old mother of the deceased, who gave her name as Mary Jacob, debunked Benedict’s claim.

She alleged that her son had always told her about Benedict’s efforts to lure him into the Eiye cult group.

She even alleged that the matter was brought before her pastor who discouraged Emmanuel from such act and advised him to stay away from such friends.

She maintained her son was never a cultist.

She said: “I was not there, but an eyewitness told me that Benedict asked Emmanuel to follow him to a place where they drink.

Emma did and when he tried to leave because it was getting late, Benedict would not let him.

“He tried to collect my son’s cap but my son refused to let go. Benedict started beating my son.

He picked an iron and stabbed Emma with it.

I feel it is an intentional act and Benedict should be punished accordingly.

“Since he killed my son, he should also face the consequence of his actions.”

Vanguard gathered that the case, which was reported at the Alapere Police Division, is currently being investigated at the State Criminal Investigations and Intelligence Department, Panti, Yaba.

MEET THE BABY BORN WITH 12 TOES AND 12 FINGERS (PICTURED)

A baby born with 12 fingers and 12 toes has left doctors baffled – but his Mum says, ‘I quite like the extra fingers’.

There were no signs that there was anything wrong with seven-month-old Jacob Duffy before he was born in November last year.

But mum Rachael Hendry, 24, and dad John Duffy, 28, found that baby Jacob had four extra digits – and an undiagnosed complex syndrome which has left him with a number of defects, including a hole in the heart and eye conditions.

Rachael said: ‘We joked around a bit at first and said that at least he will be good on the piano but obviously we quickly realised that things were a bit more serious.

‘I quite like the extra fingers and I don’t really want the surgeons to chop them off but kids are quite cruel and I could hardly send him to school with them.’

Doctors aim to operate after he is 12 months old – and his parents are now trying to raise cash for a sensory room to aid his development.

The pair have already raised £1,000 in just six weeks of campaigning with proceeds also going towards the Hawthorn Family Support Centre in Leeds where Jacob visits every week.

Rachael said: ‘He’s doing really well now and the focus is on how he develops like any other baby.

‘Doctors are keeping a keen eye on him and we’re waiting on test results to see exactly what condition he has.

‘He has so many defects that it can’t just be coincidence.

MAN DISGUISES AS WOMAN WITH BLOUSE & PADDED FOAM BRA TO KIDNAP SCHOOL CHILDREN

The Abia State Police Command, in Umuahia has told press on Tuesday, May 26,2015 that a man by the name of Uzoma Ugwumadu, who, disguised as a woman, allegedly attempted to kidnap some primary school pupils from Osusu Amukwa Community Primary School in Aba.

The state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Joshak Habila, also said other members of the syndicate were still at large.

Habila said the suspect had disguised himself as a lady wearing blouse and a bosom-like foam and was already leading four school children away when he was nabbed by members of the village vigilance group.

The state police boss said his fellow kidnappers, who were in a waiting bus having a strange registration number, and were parked along New Umuahia Road Aba, sped off in their vehicle immediately the vigilance group and teachers raised the alarm.

Habila added that efforts were ongoing to arrest the fleeing bandits.

The suspect however denied the allegations, claiming that he was only trying to assist the pupils when he was arrested.

Ugwumadu said that his enemies, who were jealous of his progress in life, were behind his ordeals, .

In a related case the Police also said investigations werein progess towards the apprehending of the kidnappers of a two-year-old boy, Chimsimdiri Obilor.

They police said the mother of the victim reported that one Chidube visited her neighbour, Eberechukwu Eze, and allegedly stole the boy.

TINUBU, AMAECHI HEAD TO LONDON TO FETCH BUHARI, TROUBLE COOKING IN APC CAMP

Major-General Muhammadu Buhari’s unannounced trip to the United Kingdom last week has caused disquiet among several bigwigs in his All Progressives Congress (APC) as it is the first clear signal that the President- Elect is a man of independent thinking determined to govern the Buhari way.

Sources informed THISDAY that not only did the President-Elect choose not to inform the party’s leadership of his intending trip, he travelled to the UK with only 2 Personal Assistants, Seriki Abba and a Mr Tunde . He was received at the door of the aircraft by High Commissioner Sarki Tafida and rode in the embassy official car to his usual central London holiday flat booked by his brother having rejected the hotel booked by the High Commission.

His friend and backer of several decades, Mamman Daura was already waiting for him at the flat and they both drove in company of Seriki Abba to No 10 Downing Street to meet with British Prime Minister, David Cameron where they discussed issues ranging from security to corruption and the immigrant crises facing Europe. Unlike his Chatham House visit with several APC bid wigs, this was done without their knowledge and the President Elect clearly needed his Buhari time.

But once APC chieftains got wind of Buhari’s departure, quite a few of them comprising the party’s National Leader, Bola Tinubu and Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi scurried off to the UK in hot pursuit of Buhari.

Indeed, Amaechi was so eager to meet with Buhari in the UK, he elected to fly in the Economy cabin of Lufthansa Airways since his last minute booking could not get him a First or Business Class seat.

Buhari, who has now elected to stay on in the UK till tomorrow night before returning within 24 hours of his inauguration as Nigeria’s next president, is said to be giving his party leaders sleepless nights.

Sources say they are rather concerned that Buhari’s penchant for keeping issues close to his chest and relying more on his old friends and backers from the North could alienate other critical members of the party who worked hard for his victory at the polls.

The First Lady is off Limits

Once a photograph of Oando Plc’s head honcho, Wale Tinubu and the incoming First Lady Mrs. Aisha Buhari sitting next to each other onboard a helicopter on the way to the Oshiomhole wedding went viral, her husband Muhammadu Buhari could not help but show his displeasure.

Buhari, an austere disciplinarian and devout Muslim, THISDAY gathered, summoned his wife and read the riot act to her on her public comportment, especially as she prepares to mount the saddle as first lady, a post he never really wanted under his administration.

Once Tinubu learnt that he had rubbed Buhari off the wrong way by allowing the photograph to find its way to the social media, he was also said to have run to those close to the retired army general to plead for Buhari’s pardon.

It is uncertain if Tinubu, who is one of several Nigerians – along with his partner Mofe Boyo – who are said to be eying the post of Petroleum Minister under the incoming administration, has made any headway with the ambition as indications are the Buhari intends to keep the Petroleum Ministry within the Presidency.

NDLEA BOSS EXPLAINS HOW THEY GOT KASHAMU, NICKNAMED ‘GOD’

The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Ahmadu Giade, Sunday explained how the agency was able to get alleged drug trafficker, now Senator-elect, Buruji Kashamu, under house arrest in Lagos.

Officials of the agency had on Saturday stormed the Lekki home of Kashamu, who was allegedly nick-named “God” in the US, and got him restrained therein.

THISDAY gathered that to place Kashamu on house arrest, the agency had disarmed Kashamu’s personal guards manning his gates.

The statement went on to state that as at the time of his arrest, the agency allowed Kashamu’s legal attorneys – Daniel Onamusi and Barrister Oloyede – and close family members, including his wife and adult daughters, to speak with him and attest to his well-being.

The agency said the house arrest was preparatory to his being extradited to the United States of America, where he would be tried for drug trafficking-related offences.

Giade made these disclosures in a statement issued by the agency’s Head of Public Affairs, Mitchel Ofoyeju.

The NDLEA boss said Kashamu has been a target of both the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) for over 20 years.

He said the house arrest is sequel to a formal request for extradition which the agency received from the Embassy of the United States of America pending his arraignment before the Federal High Court on Monday, May 25, 2015.

He said the senator-elect was indicted in the Northern District of Illinois, United States on charges brought against him by ICE.

The statement reads in part, “Kashamu, who U.S. court documents alleged was known in his days as the leader of a prolific heroin trafficking ring based in Chicago, Illinois as “God,” “Daddy,” and “Kasmal,” is wanted to stand trial for charges of conspiracy and importation of controlled substances, namely heroin, into the United States dating back to 1994.

“Kashamu, who holds dual Nigerian/Beninese citizenship, has taken multiple preemptive actions to thwart U.S. extradition efforts such as making fanciful claims that his is a case of mistaken identity, and that his deceased brother is responsible for the crimes he is being sought after in the United States.

REVEALED: WHY GUYS DUMP LADIES AFTER GETTING UNDER THEIR SKIRTS

1. She Doesn’t Have A Good Record
Ladies, are you aware that guys make research before wooing you? Ooooh yes !!! They might ask quite a few numbers from people who know you well but may not be in talking terms with you. When he gets a negative report like, ‘That babe sure gan oooooo, na so she dey pack men up and down…’ My dear, to be frank, if he doesn’t have church mind, he will also want to mark register, and leave.

2. She’s Deceitful
Who likes to mingle with a deceitful lady?
A lady who deceives a guy with padded bra and pant will definitely bite her fingers at the end of the day. If he later gets to know that your bosoms and buttocks are as flat as 2Bexercise book, never blame him if he dumps you after some rounds of love making

3. She Lied About Being A Virgin
Guys hate when ladies lie about being virgins. If you lie about being a virgin and he later gets to know that you are as wide as Lagos-Ibadan expressway after two years of celibacy. He will definitely zoom off at Usain Bolt’s pace

4. She Turned Him Into A Maga
My research and findings have shown that when a guy pays your bill out of his kind gesture and he realizes you go about telling people that he’s a maga, he will treat you like a monkey (use of banaba) and wave goodbye the moment he gets under your skirt
5. She Acts Like A Peacock
Guys love ladies who give them tough time, but your shakara(posturing) must be done with moderation or else, your excess pride, shakara and yanga will make him dump your ass after the deed. He might just be like, ‘Upon all my stress and dis girl yeye shakara, no be she I bleep so? Upon say she make everything hard as LASU Post UME exam…’

You Have Nothing To Offer
GEJ’s fruitless administration is not smiling on youths. Even the rich dudes want ladies that will help them economize their money and help draw their life plans. When a lady is always concerned about fixing eye lashes, Brazilian hair, Silverbird cinema and Ozone cinema etc., you don’t need T. B Joshua to tell you that the quy in question knows that 5mins pleasure is all you can offer him7. Your B**BS Attracted Him
Sometimes, the way you got to meet a lady may determine how the relationship will go (not in all cases though). When the only thing that got a guy attracted to you is your half-revealed B**BS, he will only see you as a S*X object and dump your ass after getting under your skirt
8. Telling Him To Promise You Marriage Before You Open Your Legs
I mean who the hell makes such a promise? I have seen the case of a lady who told my friend to promise her marriage, or else, she will not open her legs. Funny enough, he promised her marriage and waved goodbye after getting under her skirt

9. Unshaved And Odourful Kitty-Cat
If she’s so dirty that her body odour smells more than MORTEIN. The guy is left with no choice than to dump her ass after the deed.

GOD IS GREAT: See How God Saved A Man Who Was Nearly Kidnapped By Ritualists Today

Story as it was sent to me. Read below...

It was a terrible experience this morning at my farm located at Odoyanta, Ijebu Ode. I just finished feeding the fish, so on my way back I heard a loud noise and the noise was coming from the father of the boy working for me although the man speaks in Igbo language. I had to ask the boy working for me to translate what his father said. He told me that his father said there are ritualist in the bush that they've taken someone from a fish farm nearby. That we should come out on time.

It happened that the ritualist tried to kidnap a fish farmer. They have succeeded in beating and chaining him like a dog. It was while the incident was going on that someone in the bush saw them and quickly ran back to town to alert guys in the community.

They were able to arrest two out of the three ritualists and the last one escape. The woman who is iyalode in the town was behind the operation

Here are the pictures: pic 1 and 2 are the kidnappers, pic 3 is the iyalode of the town and pic 4 is the guy they were trying to kidnap and use for rituals

SHOCKING: How Ritualists Gruesomely Killed 24-yr-old Female Accountant In Portharcourt (Photo)

Pa Kalu Elem Okore and his wife, Angelina, have remained inconsolable since their 24-year-old daughter, Miss Anita Oluchi Okore, was killed in Port Harcourt, Rivers State by three men believed to be ritualists.

The unfortunate lady met her untimely and gruesome end when she travelled from Abakaliki, Ebonyi State to the Garden City to visit her elder sister, Dr Mrs Ugochi Igwe, in April 2015.

Based on information pieced together by her father, Pa Kalu, Sunday Sun gathered that after the young lady alighted from the bus somewhere along the East-West road, Eleme, Port Harcourt, she called her father and informed him that she had arrived the city and was about to take a taxi to her sister’s place. Oluchi flagged down a taxi, told the driver her destination and boarded. Three other
men were also in the taxi.

They had just driven some distance when she noticed that something was wrong. The strange attitude of the three occupants of the taxi made her uncomfortable and she sensed danger. Her fear became real when the taxi suddenly veered off her route and headed to direction she did not know. Then it dawned on her that there was trouble. She quickly put a call across to her father, informing him of the situation.

As Pa Kalu told Sunday Sun, the frightened young lady said:
“Daddy, I don’t know where the taxi I entered is taking me to.”
She pleaded with the people to let her go and even passed her phone to them to listen to her father’s pleas to them to spare her, promising to pay ransom.  He even invoked the  name of the Most High in the hope that abductors had a modicum of reverence for God, but all his pleas fell on deaf ears.

The abductors were said to have told Pa Kalu that giving them money could not solve the problem and brusquely returned the phone to Oluchi, who continued to plead for her life as her father listened on the open line.

After a short while the phone went dead, and that was the last time Pa Okore heard the voice of his lovely daughter. Hours rolled into days and then weeks, yet no call came from her or the abductors. The family organized a search and also reported the matter to the police, the State Security Service (SSS) and the Directorate of Military Intelligence (DMI), in Port Harcourt.

What ensued from that day was pure mental torture for the Okore family as they daily searched everywhere. As the weeks passed and the abductors made no contact with the family, it began to dawn on Pa Okore that Oluchi’s disappearance was not a case of kidnapping for ransom. That suspicion became real when her mutilated body was eventually discovered where the ritual killers dumped it.

The grief-stricken father lamented:
“It is only God who knows what my daughter saw in their hands before they killed her in cold blood and harvested her vital organs for rituals,” Pa Okore lamented.
Before the discovery of the victims remains, the combined team of the SSS and DMI working on the belief that the victim could probably had been abducted by ritualists given that they did not contact the family, obtained and reviewed the central call log of MTN GSM network.

Through the review, the investigating team found out the location of Oluchi’s last call. The effort paid off as three of the ritualists were arrested in a hotel, where they were enjoying the N1.5 million their clients paid for the body parts they procured for them. The culprits then led security operatives to where they dumped what remained of Oluchi’s body after cutting out vital organs.

Oluchi was buried on Thursday, May 7th, 2015, in Eziobasi, Amodu Ututu, in Arochukwu LGA of Abia State, after a funeral service held at the Presbyterian Church of Nigeria, Umule Parish, Aba.

At the burial of the murdered young lady, Pa Okore wailed uncontrollably at her graveside. Oluchi was the daughter that always put smiles on his face each time she was around. Expectedly, the painful loss of their daughter made them look very frail, emaciated and deeply troubled.

Buhari Opens Up On The Oil Industry

The president-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, recently spoke to the Daily Trust and he gave his own perspective on the issues bedeviling the oil industry.

Read below:

One burning issue is fuel subsidy. I believe you are aware of the queues in major cities like Lagos and Abuja. The fuel importers say they are unsure of the direction of the new government in this area. Have you considered maintaining or withdrawing this subsidy or are you questioning whether it didn’t exist at all?

One of the problems I have, other than the military, is the petroleum industry where I served for three and a half years under General Obasanjo. When people start talking about this subsidy I honestly get confused. I will tell you this, and I hope it will answer what you want to know. Back then we had a refinery in Port Harcourt, which was refining 30,000 barrels a day of Nigerian crude.

Later, it was upgraded to refine 100,000 barrels a day. Another refinery was built in Port Harcourt to refine 150,000 barrels per day of Nigerian crude. So, Port Harcourt alone had the capacity to refine 250,000 barrels per day of Nigerian crude.

But when I found myself as the Minister of Petroleum I set up another refinery in Warri for 100, 000 barrels per day of Nigerian crude and the Kaduna refinery a 100, 000 barrels per day. So Nigeria built capacity to refine 450,000  a day.

Four Hundred thousands of which is purely Nigerian crude, but 50,000 was imported. The type of crude could be Venezuelan, which could be a bit heavier. But the lighter ones – kerosene, aviation fuel, diesel, PMS of different grades could be produced from our crude because Nigerian crude is about the best in the world.
If you could recall, after finishing as Minister of Petroleum, I subsequently became Head of State. You remember, I appointed Professor Tam David West as the Minister of Petroleum. When we rounded up bunkers, collected their illegal jetties and allowed jetties for only big firms which were doing production and development in the country, we were shocked that we had too much fuel.

We had to begin to export 100,000 barrels per day. Don’t forget that we didn’t stop at building refineries, we built more than 20 depots during my time, from Port Harcourt to Ilorin, Makurdi, Suleija, Maiduguri and Kano. More than 3,000 pipelines were laid to connect them. A number of stations were also built to take the trailers off the road, save lives and the infrastructure on the road. It is more economical because each trailer uses fuel.

We did all that in this country and we didn’t borrow any money as far as I know. It’s Nigerian money. From each Nigerian crude, whether Akwa Ibom, Bonny Light or whatever it is, you can work out how much products it will give you; how much petrol it will give you; how much diesel it will give you if you want to produce diesel. We could tell how much Nigerian crude cost, the cost of transportation from there to the refinery, the cost of refining, the cost of transportation to the pump stations and maybe 5 per cent go for overhead.

I can understand if Nigerians pay for those costs. But somebody is saying he is subsidizing Nigerians.

Who is subsidizing who?

But they argue that the price should not be the same in Lagos and Daura, for example?

It has to be the same because it is the Nigerian crude.

But they consider the cost of transportation?

Why didn’t it make any difference when we were around? Why did we build the network of pipelines? Why did we build the network of depots? What can Nigerians benefit from the God-given gift of petroleum? No refinery is built unless there is an in-depth research that there is enough reserve of up to six layers to be produced.

The argument I have heard is that refineries are aged. Mostly, they are performing at less than half of their capacity…?

You can’t defend these corrupt and incompeten

PHOTOS: Couple Treks For GEJ With Their New Born Baby

Just when we thought the season of trekking for politicians was over a new one has hit us!

A couple, Michael and Edna Ayibaemi, have decided to join the people trekking for one politician or another. This couple have decided to trek from Warri to Otuoke in Bayelsa state with their 25-day-old baby. They are trekking just to honour the outgoing president, Goodluck Jonathan.

According to Linda Ikeji, the husband Michael revealed that he had been due to go on the trekking adventure alone, but his wife, who gave birth just 25 days ago, decided to join him with their baby. According to the couple, the trekking was necessary because president Jonathan is a true hero for conceding defeat and allowing peace in Nigeria after the presidential elections despite the brewing political war.

A young Nigerian, Nihi John Oladele, who is trekking from Abuja to Otuoke, Bayelsa state, for President Goodluck Jonathan, arrived in Bayelsa state on May 20, Wednesday, but not without a fair share of ‘bruises’. This trekking issue has got a lot of top celebs worried as they think Nigerians are overdoing it.

Oladele had blasted the Nollywood star, Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde, for condemning his ambition to trek for Jonathan and had continued with his walk nonetheless, reaching his destination a few days ago amidst cheers from President Goodluck Jonathan’s kinsmen.

What do you think about this couple trekking with their 25-day-old baby?

Boko Haram Beheads 10 In Adamawa

Reports just reaching us indicate that Boko Haram has claimed the lives of 10 people in Adamawa state.

According to a report by Daily Post, the suspected Boko Haram sect members slaughtered 10 people in Kwamda- Kobla village in the northern part of the state.

Addressing newsmen, the chairman of Madagali local government area, Maina Ularamu, confirmed the incident, noting that the gunmen raided several villages in the area at the weekend.

Ularamu revealed that the attackers embarked on the dastardly act by beheading their victims.

He said: “The village is five kilometres from Gulak town, but there is no security presence there as soldiers are deployed in Madagali town and Gulak only. When the vigilante men went after the militants, they escaped.”

Ularamu, however, expressed optimism that the military will offer the needed security in the area as well as protect lives and property.

Adamawa state has been plagued with a series of Boko Haram attacks in recent times. Last week, a suicide bomber, suspected to be a Boko Haram member, blew himself up at Garkida market and killed 7 people. Just before that, at least nine people were also killed in an offensive carried out by the Islamist sect in Madagali area of the state.

According to reports from the affected areas, the renewed onslaught by the Boko Haram insurgents had sparked fear and apprehension among residents of the area as some of them have started fleeing to Yola, the state capital, to seek refuge.

Fuel Scarcity: MTN To Shutdown

Nigeria’s leading mobile operator MTN, has stated that it may shut down its services within the next 24 hours due to the unavailability of diesel to power its power base stations.

Making this known via its Twitter handle, @MTNNG, the company hinted that the current diesel scarcity in most parts of Nigeria is hampering its ability to run its base stations effectively.

According to Akinwale Goodluck, the company’s corporate services executive, MTN’s reserves of diesel is running low and if the company is unable to receive additional supply of the product within the next 24 hours, customers may experience poor services.

The company further assured that it was doing its best to deliver uninterrupted service to its customers, it however apologised in advance for any outages or inconvenience that its customers may suffer.

Scarcity of petroleum products has hit major parts of Nigeria with consumers finding it increasingly difficult to purchase fuel which seems only available in black markets at a high price.

The Senate recently directed its committees on petroleum resources to commence investigations into the remote and immediate cause of the current fuel scarcity so as to bring reprieve to Nigerians.

NDLEA Addresses Kashamu In Fresh Statement

The National Drug Law enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on May 24 told Buruji Kashamu to get prepared for extradition proceedings.

It should be noted that the NDLEA yesterday laid siege on the residence of Kashamu’s, previously indicted for drug dealing in the USA. The aides of the senator-elect characterized the move as illegal, to which the Agency, however, objected.

According to Premium Times, on Sunday the body warned Kashamu against blaming anyone for his predicaments and urging him to get ready to face extradition over drug-related offences.

Recall that after the PDP politician blamed his current predicament on former president Olusegun Obasanjo and Bode George, whose wife heads the NDLEA.

The May 24 statement signed by Ofoyeju Mitchell, the Agency spokesman, read:

“We expect Kashamu as a distinguished senator-elect to demonstrate ample confidence in the Nigerian judicial system and stop the blame game.

“The fact is that a formal request for his extradition had been received from the Embassy of the United States of America. According to official report, Kashamu has been on the wanted list of both the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

“Kashamu was indicted in the Northern District of Illinois, United States on charges brought against him by ICE. According to the United States court documents, Kashamu in his days as the leader of a prolific heroin trafficking ring based in Chicago, Illinois was known as “God,” “Daddy,” and “Kasmal”. He is wanted to stand trial on charges of conspiracy and importation of controlled substances, namely heroin, into the United States dating back to 1994.”

Apart from that, the NDLEA added that Kashamu “who holds dual Nigerian/Beninese citizenship, has taken multiple preemptive actions to thwart US extradition efforts such as making fanciful claims that his is a case of mistaken identity, and that his deceased brother is responsible for the crimes he is being sought after in the United States. He has filed injunctions at the federal court both in the Northern District of Illinois, United States and in Nigeria to prevent his arrest and prosecution.”

Kashamu is expected to appear in court on Monday.

Buhari reportedly rejects Rolls Royce from Nigerian Embassy in UK

President elect Buhari who left Nigeria for the UK on Friday May 22nd reportedly rejected the Rolls Royce car the Nigerian Embassy in the UK made available for him as he arrived London.

A member of his entourage who spoke with The Nation said after exchanging pleasantries with the Nigerian High Commissioner to the UK, Dr Dalhatu Tafida, the president-elect politely told them that his visit was strictly private and he had made arrangement for all his needs while in the UK.

He thanked them for the warm reception and quickly hopped into a less flamboyant car he had arranged for and drove out of the airport.
“It appeared he was uncomfortable with the number of exotic cars in the convoy. Hard as the stunned diplomats present tried to convince him, he refused to bulge, insisting that since he did not inform the Commission of his visit because it was not an official trip, hence he was not entitled to such grandeur.”the source said
